Opening Prayer…

“Lord God, thank you for today. Thank you for your Son Jesus and the incredible words of wisdom from the Sermon on the Mount. Living life as He teaches me can help me walk moment by moment in faith and serenity even when I mourn. Holy Spirit, remind me throughout the day to reFocus on what Jesus is showing me. Help me to carry it with me and practice it in every situation so that in the end I will give glory to God in my life.” Amen

A Word from Jesus…

“You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.” Mt. 5:4 (Message Bible)

No matter your loss, I am here. People, places, things, ideas, expectations; when you release them to Me, I will hold them and then fill that loss with My love. Look for the love in unexpected ways. Maybe you will experience love in the way of patience and kindness. Maybe someone who has previously been jealous or proud or boastful or rude towards you will be gracious. Maybe you will see love through forgiveness and mercy. Maybe you will be able to express love towards others and yourself this way as well. (I Cor. 13:4-7)

When love fills a gap your grief and loss will diminish and you will feel comfort because I see. I understand. Give Me all of your hurt and pain and I will give you comfort in your dark nights and give you sweet joy in the morning. (Ps. 30:4)

reFocus Today…

Is there something in today’s Word from Jesus that resonates with you?

  • What do you hear Jesus saying just to you in your mind, heart or spirit from this verse about your loss(es)?
  • Is there anything that draws you closer to God?
  • Is there anything that makes you want to turn away from God?
  • How do you imagine this may impact how you view your situations and people in your life?

 Closing Prayer…

Lord, lead me as I remember the words of Paul in his letter to the church in Corinth… “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.” Help me to remember that I am not alone in my troubles and losses. For “He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When others are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. Even when we are weighed down with troubles, it is for our comfort and salvation!” (2 Cor. 1:3-6 paraphrased) Amen.
